The Walk and 5k For Autism Awareness-April 27, 2014
MJA Martial Arts and our demonstration team put on a 1-hour demonstration at Lake Park in Worcester MA. Directed by Sensei Michael Agbay. Head coach Michael Frustaci and assistant coach Stavros Aganis did a remarkable job putting these routines together and choreographed to music. With the assistance of Instructor Chris Orcutt and Assistant Instructor Kendra Mort. Students ranging from 6-17 years participated in the incredible event. Everything from group routines to individual empty hand and weapon routines were performed. Even though the weather was cold and rainy, all these kids lit up the park with their smiles and attitudes.
There were also some kata (forms) and technique demonstrations put on by our very own students who themselves have a form of Autism. enough to make any parent proud!
MJA Martial Arts has also become a sponsor to help raise money for Worcester Autism Resource Center of Central Massachuestts.
We conducted a Kick-A-Thon which we set a goal for $3000.00 which ends Saturday May 3, 2014.
If you would like to give a donation please go to https://www.firstgiving.com/team/263051
One of our very own 3-year old Shane raised $570.00. We are so amazed at the spirit of this little guy!

Bring Parent's To Class Week- April 1-5
April 1-5 was Bring your parents to class week! It was a fantastic turnout!
We had over 20 parents come in and train with their kids!
The students worked with their parents teaching them their katas (forms), belt techniques and pad drills which included punches, blocks and kicks. The kids were so pumped up and excited. It built their confidence to be able to show what they've learned during their classes.
Parents got a feel for how much their little ones had to memorize and what was required for their belt ranks.
We also had a drawing for all the parents who participated to enter to win a month free of training.
Thanks to all who participated in this wonderful event.

Summer Fun Week August 5-9
A dozen children between the ages of 5-10 attended our annual Summer Fun Week program. The program took place at our school from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm. They participated in a variety of fun activities, including Archery and learning to use various training weapons such as Bow Staff and foam Nunchukas. Each activity also allowed them the chance to compete for great prizes and work on arts and craft projects. Finally, they were taught some terminology and history of what martial arts is all about. By Friday at 3:00pm the children were pretty tired. One little girl said to me -"This is the best Fun Week I ever went to! I'm going to do this every year!" Thank you to all my Instructors and Assistant Instructors for all your hard work. Thank you most of all to the parents for giving us the great opportunity to teach your children during this fun week.

February 23, 2013PSA Personal Safety Self-Defense Workshop
Twelve adults and eight kids participated in our self defense workshop on Saturday Feb 23. The kids learned skills on how to deal with bullies, "stranger danger" and prevention of physical altercations. The adults learned boundary setting, how to deal with a physical altercation and defending against a variety of different attacks. All came in hesitant as to what they would be required to do. All left, however, a bit more confident that they would be able to focus on what would be needed to defend themselves and escape to safety. For anyone who missed this workshop, you can still register for the 8 week program which will begin on Thursday March 7 at 6:30pm. Call the school for more information and save your place.

Bring Your Parent to Class Week
Do you ever wonder what your child's Instructor is telling them during class? Well, our students' parents found out during our most recent "Bring Your Parent to Class" week. Parents came in and participated in training with their child, learning moves and techniques that were being taught. The kids also got to instruct their parent to see how much they learned. From Ninja Tigers to Intermediate, all the parents had fun. When asked what they thought after their child's class we were told "Wow! What a workout!!".
They also told us they gained a new appreciation for how hard their child works during their class.
Come join us for the next Bring Your Parent to Class week. You'll be amazed at how much you learn!

Pizza & Movie Night
Had a great time hosting the kids and having pizza and watching the original "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". We played games, burned off some energy, had some food and juices then settled in to watch the movie in the Dojo. It's a great night for all of the kids in the school who don't know each other from different levels to get together and teach each other their techniques. Parents appreciate it for the couple of hours of "free time"! Want to join us at our next movie night? Stay tuned!Wednesday, January 12, 2011
